Message from the President
I’m writing to you on the heels of pulling an all-nighter in the Counting Center, representing the Big Island Press Club as an official observer. I took over the job from our very own treasurer, Bob Duerr, who did it for many years. This is not for the faint of heart. It’s very tiresome, to say the least. But it’s also interesting. I begged for help for the General Election, because I didn’t want to take off the day after the election to catch up on sleep. Thankfully, Nancy Cook Lauer arranged for UHH political science students and their professors to serve as official observers. But all my new friends who I see every election told me, “See you for the General!” and I didn’t have the heart to say that I was going to bow out. So, I’ll probably join the Poli Sci folks.
Looking ahead, not quite so far to November, folks, I need you to sign up to attend our planned Meet the Mayor event at the Yacht Club on Sept. 21.
Here are some reasons why:
1. We can spend some time together
2. We can hear from these mayoral candidates who are in a run-off in the General! (When was the last time this happened?!)
3. We can eat scrumptious food
4. We can enjoy a world-class view
5. We can reminisce about the last time (MANY YEARS AGO) the Press Club held an event at the Yacht Club
I sure hope to see you at the Sept. 21 mayoral event. I know you are going to love everything about it.
We can catch up more there.
Aloha, and a hui hou (Sept. 21!),
Your president,
Tiffany E Hunt
